There are 18 racetracks operating in the Province of Ontario; 15 standardbred; one thoroughbred; one thoroughbred and standardbred combined; and one quarterhorse. Ontario has more race dates than any jurisdiction in North America. Horse racing is a year round sport, with both live racing in the province and simulcast racing brought in from other jurisdictions.

There are approximately 76 teletheatres in Ontario. Teletheatres are entertainment locations that receive horse races via satellite from existing racetracks. Patrons can wager on races viewed on screens or television sets. The wagering is supervised by the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency, a division of Agriculture Canada, and bets are electronically transmitted to the host track. Teletheatre wagering becomes part of the total on-track wagering pool and winners are paid the same amount as track patrons.

Teletheatre’s are becoming exciting entertainment destinations that allow customers to enjoy wonderful food and a host of other activities. To see two samples of the newer teletheatre’s in Ontario please click here for The Turf lounge and here for WEGZ Stadium bar.
